The members of residents’ Welfare Associations are encouraging the plan of the Chennai Corporation to develop a road over-bridge at the level crossing gate between Perambur and Villivakkam railway station. Constructing such bridges and other infrastructure developments is not as easy as constructing residential buildings by flat promoters in Chennai. The state government has to get approval from the officials of every department and also from residents, if in case, their property gets acquired for extension of road or some infrastructure development. Next is, the government has to wait for long run till the fund gets sanctioned. As the amount dealt is too high, it takes long time for the sanctioning of money.
In GKM Colony, Kolathur, a public meeting has been conducted by Chennai Corporation which took voting among the residents. In the voting, all the residents gave good feedback on the planned project. In addition to these projects, the residents residing at residential real estate projects in Chennai also suggested for the need of an over-bridge at the level crossing to ease traffic congestion. It is must since during peak hours, vehicles queue up for more than 1 Km distance to cross the railway track. As per the wordings of the members said in the Residents Welfare Association, Kolathur, ROB can be constructed to ease access for those who are travelling from Kolathur and Villivakkam, both are highly populated area.
The video of the public suggestions are shown to the Corporation Mayor Saidai S.Duraisamy who decided and started the road widening and other infrastructure projects. Currently, these projects are in the pipeline. Villivakkam MLA requested the civic body to consider about developing over-bridges for the motorist traveling towards Villivakkam after going looking into the drawbacks in the alignment of the south region. The MLA was stated that if the infrastructure project gets delayed, the main reason would be because of southern railways. In precaution, he asked the MPs of North Chennai and Central (T.G. Venkatesh Babu and S.R.Vijayakumar ) to take up the issue seriously and have a meeting with Railway authorities. The 2 way ROB has been planned for a length of 860 metres and it is also calculated that the cost for completing it would require Rs.39.6 crore. As per the report of the source, the state government should acquire around 80000 feet of land for the development of this project.
